Series & Parallel Wiring Mod

I've been messing around with my friend's S series and couldn't help but notice why is there a need for a 5 way switch when there are only 2 humbuckers. He then explained the 1st position is for Series and the 2nd is for Parallel. Sounded awesome but I'm not good with 5 way switches as I always have a problem switching to either 2 or 4. I think it's more appropriate to use a toggle switch to change between the different wiring types.

Because of this, I'm beginning to consider splitting rail pickups to get the the best of everything. greedy huh?

Speaking of which, why aren't many people talking about / using this kind of switching? I realised that not many guitars offer this kind of wiring options as well. I feel the sound is much better compared to coil splitting for humbuckers. of course, you can have both coil splitting and selectable wiring mods if you want but do you guys feel that "less is more" or "more is still more"?

your thoughts??
