i want to get a new guitar that has good sound for playing alternative rock and a amp that goes with it, which guitar and amp should i get?

Don't give us a 2 rocks and a pile of wood to start a fire with, so to speak. Ok, bad example, but at least tell us your budget range and which bands you'd like to sound like. Will be good if you can tell us whether you're open to getting pedals to supplement your your tone as well.

Another option could be a Swing Standard R2 ($870) and a Sound Drive SG612R ($500). Major mojo in that amp, solid state as it might be. Both available form Mike@SV. There's still enough leftover for a padded gigbag. Or if you up the budget to 1.6k, a compressor in the mix will be a great addition to this setup.
