Alex Lifeson (especially in the Rush album 2112)
Steven Wilson (Apart from his work in Porcupine Tree, I admire his innovative use of the guitar in Insurgentes)
Eric Johnson (Manhattan, S.R.V., Cliffs of Dover. Just for his work on those three songs)
Tommy Emmanuel (for acoustic guitar, he wins hands down.)
David Gilmour (In particular the albums Wish You Were Here and The Wall)
Mikael Akerfeldt (especially in the Opeth album Damnation)
Jim Matheos (his work in Fates Warning, OSI.)
John Petrucci (because of adam02.)
I'd say these guitarists are the ones that both make me want to put down the guitar and walk away in despair and at the same time inspire me to play. I don't have a "favourite" guitarist, I admire these guitarists for different reasons, but my admiration for one doesn't detract from another, as a consequence. This definitely isn't a complete list, I left out many guitarists I admire from the blues, jazz and classic rock scene- even though I do appreciate the likes of George Benson, Lee Ritenour and Jimmy Page- because to list them all would be far too time-consuming.

Yeah. Totally agree with this choice! Plus, Addy Cradle and Paul Danial. All for great tone and melody.
