EXCELLENT CONDITION - 9.3/10
- There's a ding on the lower edge just underneath the controls, but it is actually almost completely smooth to the touch & really only minor surface damage, not structural. Doesn't even look that bad in person.
- There's also a ding at the end of the headstock on one horn that isn't as noticeable as pics suggest as the paint blends in pretty well & you don't really stare at that end of the guitar.
- 3 of the control knobs have a small single-line crack at the centre of them - difficult to actually see without your face up against the guitar, but I believe in full disclosure - still functions 100% as normal
- None of this affects playability or functionality whatsoever - these are all purely cosmetic flaws - frets are basically untouched
- Other than that, it is completely Immaculate/Like New/Dead Mint!
- Well first off, I'll go ahead & point out the obvious: HOW UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS IS THAT EXPERTLY-CARVED QUILTED MAPLE TOP?!!
It truly is spectacular & one of the most stunning quilted tops I have ever seen in person. Ridiculous depth, layered figuring & consistency - if you look closely enough, it is quite literally a shimmering glistening ocean of gorgeous aqua-marine maple bliss that you just can't help but want to immerse yourself in. It's one of those tops that is somehow bookmatched to such near-perfection that it almost looks like a single piece of wood; & you can't help but be captivated by that kind of attention to detail, as well as the results.
The way they've carved out the natural binding round the edge is truly special as well - lovely craftsmanship. Trust me, the pics just don't do this thing justice whatsoever. A mesmerising specimen showcasing the very best of first class figured wood aesthetics. If this was a PRS - I'm pretty sure it would be an 11 Top.
- The next thing you'll notice, is how damn massive that amazing non-chambered mahoghany body is. It really is a behemoth on a totally different level & the most solid chunk of wood I've ever held in my hands. As you can imagine, sustain & resonance are exceptional as a result. This is how singlecuts are meant to feel lads! Chunky body = chunky tone.
- The fretwork on this is absolutely top notch & the ebony fretboard is one of the nicest & most dense I've ever seen with some lovely natural chocolatey figuring in areas as well. & I don't know about you, but the inlays are actually pretty classy in my eyes & give it a bit of it's own unique modern edge at the same time - they certainly don't look out of place on a guitar this gorgeous & only add to the exotic high-end factor it possesses.
- Unrivalled playability courtesy of the curiously-shaped yet strangely comfortable signature Dean V-neck carve that just seems to fit your hand perfectly at both ends of the fretboard. I thought it would take some getting used to at first with this unorthodox design - but honestly I was shredding out some of the fastest licks I ever have done just minutes later. Don't let it's luxurious aesthetics & traditional singlecut-inspired design fool you - the playability of this thing is almost unfair.
- I can't say enough about how good this thing sounds. Absolutely monstrous massive chunky roaring tone from the all-mahoghany body & neck combo - with lovely warm distinct character & awesome definition courtesy of that MASSIVE MAPLE CAP! THIS THING IS A BONA-FIDE RIFF MACHINE!
- The Dean pickups may not necessarily be everyone's cup of tea, but it does everything from crystalline cleans & bluesy leads through to high gain crunch & searing shred tones convincingly. Chuck a couple Bareknuckles in there & it's only going to get even better.
- With it's extravagant aesthetics & the mesmerisingly beautiful quilted top - guitars don't come with much more uber-classy sex appeal than this gorgeous girl!
- & of course overall build quality is one of the most impressive things about this axe - being made in the Dean USA Custom Shop should speak for itself!
