The 14th edition of Baybeats brings music lovers together to enjoy performances by a wide range of alternative music acts from Singapore and the region.
During the three-day festival, 28 Singapore and seven regional bands will perform music across different genres including folk, pop, metal, post-rock, emo, punk, electro and more.

Cecilia Chow, Programmer, The Esplanade Co Ltd said, “As we celebrate this special year for Singapore, we also celebrate everyone in Singapore’s alternative music scene who has dared to dream and who has believed in what the community can achieve together. We
hope that bringing together these people, stories and tunes from the past, present and future at Baybeats 2015 will inspire us all to always keep the spirit of daring alive.”

In celebration of SG50, Baybeats 2015 features Mixtape, a special project which creates a platform for veterans of Singapore’s music community to share their stories and to inspire the next generation of musicians. Esplanade will collaborate with members of Wake Me Up Music (co-producers of the festival’s earlier editions) for the project. Taking place at a third outdoor stage along the Esplanade Waterfront specially set up for this year, Mixtape will feature an exhibition which traces the evolution of Baybeats and Singapore’s alternative music scene, as well as nightly performances by bands with a connection to the festival’s past. These include bands such as TypeWriter and SURREAL who played at the very first edition of Baybeats in 2002 and The Fire Fight, a band that got through the first Baybeats audition held in 2007.

Baybeats 2015 continues to support the development of Singapore’s music community through mentorship programmes for youths with different interests, passions and talents under the Baybeats Budding initiative. This year, eight Budding Bands were selected through an audition process to undergo a four-month mentorship programme helmed by prominent Singapore music industry veterans Bani Hidir, Daniel Sassoon, Errol Tan and Leonard Soosay. All eight bands will make their Baybeats debut at the culmination of the programme.

The 2015 Baybeats Budding initiative also provides mentorship opportunities for aspiring music journalists, concert photographers and video production artists. Youths undergoing these programmes will be mentored by veteran journalist Eddino Abdul Hadi, established gig photographer Aloysius Lim and creative director Josiah Ng respectively. As part of their mentorship, the youths will produce written, photographic and video content for various aspects of Baybeats 2015.
