The Mad Phoenix (南海十三郎) finally returns to the stage after 15 years! For the very first time in Singapore, come watch this hilarious and bittersweet Hong Kong stage play by actors Tse Kwan Ho (谢君豪), Perry Chiu (焦媛), Lee Lung (李龙), and more. Be amazed by the classic work of renowned playwright Raymond To (杜国威), and producer-cum-director Clifton Ko (高志森).
The Mad Phoenix is based on the tragic life story of the eccentric 20th century Cantonese opera playwright, Kong Yu Kau. The play follows Kong's life from his rebellious days as the 13th son of an official, to his rise in prominence as the top Cantonese opera songwriter and playwright of his generation, and eventually to his death in the late 70s. Due to his eccentric personality, many were confused whether he was a genius or just simply insane. This earned Kong the nickname, The Mad Phoenix.
The Mad Phoenix saw great success in Hong Kong in May last year, when it broke records of selling out 24 shows, with more than 80% of the tickets snapped up within the first day of ticket sales. In addition, many who have already watched the play requested for additional show dates so that they could watch the show again and relive the hilarious and bittersweet tale.
