how many bands out there DIY their recordings?

everything. drums, vox, guitars, bass.
care to share experiences? equipment problems? stories?

my band ecountered many problems with DIY recording.
lots of wallet burning decisions.
really hard to co-ordinate schedule to meet to record (school, exams, cca)

lots and lots or trial and error.
lots of trips back to the studio to re-record mistakes.
lots of compromises, sacrifices and 2 dollar chicken rices. (just trying to make them rhyme)

Armed with a laptop and a toneportGX (cheapest, $80) We embarked on our very first recording sessions.
We recorded in the URA building, recording on the floor at Tanjong Pagar area, outside westmall on the floor and many various locations in the westside. (still on the floor lol)

More recently we've been recording at my house. (after realising that sitting around in public places on the floor wasn't very condusive for recording) (is condusive the right word?)

As for drums, we rented usual studio time and got extra mics (vocal dynamic bad-for-drum mics (total 4 mics)) hooked them all up to the mixer/monitor and into the laptop.

Overview of equipment :
Toneport GX
Laptop
Shure SM58 (borrowed from my brother)

I'm sure even if the finished product might sound nowhere near decent (quality), I will still be very proud of it.

pahdone oar spehling erroars. and grammar. and whatever errors. im not perfag.
