The "Bands You've Probably Never Heard Of" Thread.

Greetings fellow earthlings.

I remember a thread that went somewhere along the lines of this one being on the forums some time ago, unfortunately I've been unable to locate it, so perhaps it's time to start a new one?

This is how it's gonna work; I'm pretty sure that many people here on soft have amassed a substantial music collection over the years, and I'm confident that among those oodles and oodles of songs (legally obtained or otherwise, zuh-oh), lie a number of undiscovered gems that are screaming for exposure. Forget genre-wars and "zomg my music pwns your music and your music sucks ass", if it sounds good, then it ought to be shared, after all, sharing is caring. (p.s. try not to post mp3s here though, you all know how much trouble that will get everyone into. if you want the songs, try to get in touch with the person who reccomended them)

In the interest of keeping this thread neat and tidy, might I suggest that we follow a standard format for posting?

Band Name: The Fumes

Country Of Origin: Australia

Genre: Roots/Blues/Rock

Reccomended Listening: Automobile, Run To The Mother, Atlanta Rising, The Postman's Run

A kicking two-man outfit who deliver a brand of blues that is equal parts delta-hear-my-train-a'-comin and edgy stoner-rock, with a couple of hard-driving tunes in between. They have an unbelievably huge sound, considering that they only operate with a drummer and a guitarist who does double duty as vocalist. I had the privilege of catching their live set while I was down in Australia last year, and their sound doesn't defer much when played live. All in all, a pretty sweet band.

Country Of Origin: America, Chicago
Genre: Progressive, Breakbeat, Technical Metal
Reccomended Listening (Song titles): ALL
What I Like About The Band: This is one of the good few metal bands i've heard in some time to come, they have those wierd timings and breakdowns that make you cringe at your seat and wanting to hear what u just did again. The keyboards adds a very nice touch to their music, one hell of a band.
Any Other Stuff You Wanna Add: Like a mix of Lamb of God, Meshuggah and The Faceless, this band is brutal to the core. I can't find their album anywhere though, so anyone knows where to buy this let me know ok?

I frequent this Xanga (http://www.xanga.com/BeACoolKid). This guy "is dedicated to bringing you links to free and legal downloads. Both popular and little-known artists of every genre".

Band Name: The ENTRANCE Band
Country Of Origin: USA
Genre: Psychedelic / Blues / Trance
Reccomended Listening (Song titles): Grim Reaper Blues, Silence on a Crowded Train

The 70's back in fashion. Reminds me of Jimi Hendrix, but I don't really know much about Hendrix. Check out their MySpace for the live videos. They do not put out a boring show. The female bassist used to play in A Perfect Circle and Zwan.

Band Name: Flesh And Blood Robot
Country Of Origin: America, Lansing
Genre: Hardcore / Grindcore / Death Metal
Reccomended Listening (Song titles): And Shepards We Shall Be, I Wanna Rock Your Body (Till The Break Of Dawn, She Is A New Flavour Of Lickerish
What I Like About The Band: Yet another experimental band, but in this band i sense a musical direction, very groovy band, and they use dissonances in their music which is really a plus point for me. And i think the singer is just so funny, when he dares do funny sounds. Give it a listen, not for the weak.
Any Other Stuff You Wanna Add: For fans of bands like See You Next Tuesday, Sikth, and all other experimental bands. quite a fun listen.

Band Name: A Wilhelm Scream

Country Of Origin: USA, Massachussets

Genre: Punk

Reccomended Listening: Have a listen here http://myspace.com/awilhelmscream

What I Like About The Band: Dual vocal harmonies that fit perfectly into really tight instrumentals like two puzzle pieces, with surprising twists in their song structures that still somehow manage to make sense.

The Rifles

Here's a website for all you Brit lovers out there.

www.fredperrysubculture.com

The website features up and coming British artists covering genres such as Electronic/Rave, Electro Clash, Mod, New Wave, Indie, Ska and basically anything you would expect from the Brits.

My favourite bands there are The Enemy, The Rifles, Klaxons, Shitdisco, The Secret Handshake.

Oh, and did I mention that this is Paul Weller's brainchild? =)

The Klaxons do some pretty awesome electro-indie stuff, think Arctic Monkeys groove meets Mando Diao edge meets The Rapture.

Remember to check em out people.

Band Name: Anterior
Country Of Origin: Wales ,United Kingdom
Genre: Metalcore, Heavy Metal
Reccomended Listening (Song titles): The Silent Divide, Dead Divine
What I Like About The Band: Well, you can say this is just some other metal band. but they're really not too bad, the guitars a ripped, really high level of technique there in the songs. The solos are all above a minute in every song. This band highly reminds me of trivium, though i'm not a fan, this is somewhat easier to relate to.
Any Other Stuff You Wanna Add: For fans of Trivium, Metallica, Bloodjinn. Great guitar work, i'm really impressed. breakdowns are not bad too.

Band Name: Leftover Crack
Country Of Origin: U,S & A
Genre: Punk Rock/Ska Punk
Reccomended Listening (Song titles): Atheist Anthem, One Dead Cop, Gay Rude Boys Unite, Gang Control
What I Like About The Band: Pulled themselves out of hellcat records to a smaller label because of album art censorship issues, claimed rancid were sexist homophobes. Shows how much they're not doing it for the money
Any Other Stuff You Wanna Add: Anti-war, anti-fascism, anti-racist, pro-veganism, pro-homosexual, anti-christ ska punk rock.

For fans of anti-flag, choking victim, against all authority, operation ivy, rancid, etc.

Reccomended Listening: Tele, Amansa louco, Crendenciais
What I Like About The Band: IF you like post-rock i recommend you Hurtmold.. they put in some indie, abit of fusion jazz and a bit of samba tunes to it, up beat and all i can say is that theyre really good..
Any Other Stuff You Wanna Add: The band tortoise are pretty much similiar to them. If you are a post-rock fan or someone who just like instrumentals.. i recommend u hurtmold.

Band Name: My American Heart
Country Of Origin: San Diego, United States
Genre: Rock / Alternative / Indie
Reccomended Listening (Song titles): The Shake, Boys Grab Your Guns
What I Like About The Band: This band makes use of various catchy riffs, and they just have this distinctive style which i haven't heard for a long time. Maybe Oasis meets Blink 182? I don't know haha. Very young band, and they've quite alot of potential.
Any Other Stuff You Wanna Add: Although this is nearly Pop, its worth a listen, chirpy and refreshing. nice mainstream stuff. (yeah i know this is fr unknown bands)

Band Name: Alabama Thunderpussy

Genre: Stoner/Southern Metal

Country of Origin: USA, Virginia

Reccomended Listening: Three Stars, Rocking Is Ma' Business, Middle Finger Salute, Words Of The Dying Man

What I Like About The Band: Fans of Zakk Wylde and his BLS are gonna love this. Driving anthems that sound like they were pulled from the mixtapes of a New Orleans motorcycle gang (or the soundtrack to The Dukes Of Hazzard, with Arnold Swchazernegger driving the car while high on a cocktail of anabolic steroids, you pick). The entire band, at one point, simutaneously sported mullets of equal length.
