This is the erhu as you have never heard it before.

Hailed as one of the most exciting and innovative erhu musicians today, George Gao, together with his ensemble Shaoqin Bang, present a modern take on Chinese traditional musicianship performed with the shaoqin, Gao’s innovative reinvention of the erhu.
Gao melds a variety of music from the Middle East, India and South America, together with genres including country, rock, jazz and blues, to create a heady fusion of music and showmanship, of East and West, and of the traditional and the contemporary.

Together with his ensemble members Wu Xudong, Zhu Yunqi, Ye Chunhong, Guo Mengyu, and vocalist Jenny Zhang, Gao presents a delectable musical feast of his own concoctions including Erhu Capriccio No. 5, Nakhi, Galloping Horses, Dance of Youth, and the Michael Jackson classic Bad!

About Shaoqin
The shaoqin is George Gao’s innovative take and reinvention of the traditional erhu. The shaoqin retains the timbre of the erhu while gaining qualities such as having an improved tonal colour for its lower register, an increased natural volume and an extended effective range of one octave higher.
