Recording Electronic Drums

Hi guys. I was wondering on how to record electronic drums

I know there are similar posts on the forum but I didn't really understand them, so I was hoping someone could tell me very clearly how to do it. E.g. What exactly do I need / should buy? Like cables, interfaces etc. Plus, what software could I use to edit the sound on my computer? Thanks =)

From electronic drums -> Audio output or MIDI output

Audio recording
The sound from your edrum will be recorded. You will have to choose and confirm the sound before recording.

MIDI recording
The performance data will be recorded. You can still edit the performance by moving the 'notes' in your sequencing software. You can also change the sound of your drums at anytime.

What you need
1. Electronic drum
2. Interface (Audio + MIDI)
3. Software
4. Computer

There are many choices out there. It depends all on your budget.

So, my question to you is, what's your budget?

Oh wow admin! haha.

Erm I am kind of new to this currently, so I don't exactly have a planned budget for it. But I would appreciate recommendations that are reasonably priced, not too expensive but still do a decent job. haha everyone will ask this wont they :S

I already have edrums and computer so yup. Just need the interface and the software. My friend was actually recommending some software i forgot the name something drummer, which allows to compose drum tracks using the software purely by itself. It might be helpful but I was hoping for something specifically to record exactly what im playing, then later leave it open for editing. More of MIDI perhaps.

Thank you for your time =)

Your sound module is TD-4 right? If you look at Pg 41 of your manual ( http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/1810687/TD-4_egfispd1.pdf ), it states that you can transmit MIDI out to another device.

This is how you can record via MIDI to your computer.

You will need a MIDI port on your computer. Either you buy a MIDI-USB cable or an Audio Interface with MIDI port built-in.

udio + MIDI -> http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/computer-audio/audio_interfaces/ ( You have to check if there is a MIDI port built-in )

There you go. You just need to link your edrums to your computer.

* The big problem is, your TD-4 does not have MIDI-IN. Therefore, any recorded performance will have to use the sound in your computer for playback. You can buy some really nice drums samples. http://www.sweetwater.com/c715--Virtual_Instruments_Drum_and_Rhythm
