So, in my travels in Japan, I picked up literally one of the rarest 'birds' out there
Gibson Custom Bonabyrd. #31 of 100 produced.
The polarizing combination of a Les Paul and Firebird, in a body shape Gibson will never make again (I tried through 'made to measure' program but they refused.
Notably this piece was A/B tested vs. 4 Les Paul Customs and 2 R9s in the shop Ochanomizu's Worlds Finest guitars. Blew them away. I am a Les Paul player for years but never experienced this kind of sustain and harmonic content.
I never bought into the whole simple wrap-around tailpiece argument but perhaps there is something to it. Even PRS's Paul's guitar is going with the same kind of bridge, without individual saddles, and so did the original Modern eagle.
