but if u take a look at the video. he does this pinch harmonic kinda thing at the begining. and the more i look at it the more i go ' how did that happen'.

He's prolly striking the string before the nut, causing a harmonic and subsequently depressing the string at the same nut area to have a slight 'whammy' effect...

i watched john mayer playing gravity and he had improvised the solo. he did an ordinary harmonic and pressed the strings before the nut resulting in a wailing sound i tried it but cant get the sustain he does. any idea what effect to use to get that ambient resonating sustained sound? lol so many descriptions!
