Elsa Kidspy

Elsa.jpg

Elsa Kidspy used to go to school like every normal Singaporean but she broke free from conforming to the norm and quit junior college and pursued a diploma in new media. At the same time, she made it a point to do what she loved, which was music, by writing songs influenced by the likes of Paramore and Taking Back Sunday. Kidspy isn't your normal solo teenage pop artist, her originals lean towards the indie rock and emo side. Produced by legendary rock god Leonard Soosay, the heart felt lyrics and occasional dancey beats just makes people want to rock out and have fun, not to mention headbang too. She's played at the Cancer Warrior's album launches where she contributed a track "Drift" to the charity number. "Drift" is also currently playing on 98.7FM. She has also played acoustic at the Ngee Ann Poly Red Camp and also a one day gig in Klang, Malaysia together with Ronin.

OPEN STAGE
Dont forget that there's an open stage between 8pm-10pm! If you feel so inclined, bring your instruments and go for it. No screamo/emo/core/metal please! Its Christmas time

Australian Industrial outfit Divine 9 are set to hit Singapore shores once more with the upcoming event FLOW in Ministry of Sound come 5th DECEMBER, Tuesday. Organized by youth collective Play Projekts, Live music venue Gashaus and hiphop specialists The illers, Flow boasts a high profile lineup utilizing all the rooms in the entire Ministry of sound complex.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Expected to be the largest independently organised indoor live music festival in Singapore, Flow, is set to take place across the entire Ministry of Sound Complex come Tuesday December the 5th 2006, ushering in the start of the school holidays. Presented by Nokia and supported by Adidas, Miss Earth Singapore, Whosgoing.sg (official youth Portal), Nightlife.sg (official online media), Exitmusik (underground music partner), Think Magazine (official press media) and Soft (official live music partner), the event is a youth for youth initiative put together by the triumvirate of Gashaus, Play Projekts and the iLLers. Flow was intended to be a voice for independent performers in Singapore as well as a celebration of live music with an underground theme.

True to its youth concept, future clubbers and live music enthusiasts from the age of 16 will be granted access to Flow. The event’s age policy will divide the venue into two, with 18+ entrants being able to access all four areas while 16+ entrants can only attend the main arena and hip-hop stage at Smoove which will be smoke and alcohol free for the night. Tickets are priced at a modest $20 for this ambitious endeavour.

Flow showcases over 20 independent musicians across four platforms in the 40,000 sq.ft venue, featuring Australian Industrial maestros DIVINE9. The main arena will also host the cream of local talent such as veteran rockers Concave Scream, Baybeats 2006 crowd favorites Plain Sunset, Power 98fm’s 2006“best Singapore band” nominees Saw Loser a.k.a Pug Jelly and West Grand Boulevard, Tien, as well as popular Japanese Visual rockers Seraph. Other entertainment will include a dynamic showcase of Krumpers, B-boys and beat boxers by the iLLers including performances by the Breakforce Crew, Huron and Ren. The stage will also be hosted by Miss Earth Singapore 2006 winner Shin as well as Singapore Idol (tm) 2006 participant Paul Twohill

The “Independence” stage in Ministry of Sound’s Pure Room, powered by SOFT, will feature a whole plethora of younger talent headlined by World Battle of the Bands 2006 Singapore winners Flybar who will represent Singapore in the world final of the competition in Hongkong during November. They will be supported by Yamaha Asian beat 2005 and Singapore battle of the bands 2006 finalist Project Ultrasound, Powerjam 2006 runner-up Fatskunks, Powerjam crowd favorites The Nerves, Sevenfalls, Ivy’s Vendetta, Sound Expulsion, Airtime, Stentorian, Sunset Strip, Face Off and August Star.

Smoove will play host to the “Hip-hop” stage with 2003 DMC Champion DJ Koflow turntabling together with Ministry’s own Rattle and Tang.

Lastly, for those with a more wicked, harder preference, the “originals” stage at 54 will feature the best of the Singapore Drum and bass scene with top selector Vortex, the man behind Exitmusik, Kiat with MC Kane and subversive’s Zul.

A secret afterparty has been organised as an appropriate epilogue to this massive lineup – details will not be made available until the end of the event.

Hi everyone again, got some emails in-

just some FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Why $20, why cant you make it cheaper?
Because Ministry is very expensive to hire (tens of thousands). We need to meet the financial realities of making this show happen. Remember that the bands and equipment costs money too. Although we have sponsors, not everything is covered.

2.Do I get a drink with my ticket?
Yes you get a non-alcoholic drink if you are under 18 but 16 years of age (ON THE DAY ITSELF) and above. You get a housepour/beer if you are 18+ and purchase a ticket. There are two different kinds of tickets - overage and underage. And you can only access the upper level of the venue if you are 18+

3.Can I smoke downstairs?
No. Being consistent with our pending licensing, you cannot smoke downstairs or in the balcony above. Smoking is restricted to Pure, 54 and the Sky Lounge (VIP). No alcohol will be tolerated in the main arena and smoove too.

4.Will this be the only Flow event?
No, this might be the start of a series depending on how well the event pans out. I personally will be doing a series of 'Ghetto Live' live music events starting 21st December at Ministry of Sound too. Check back later.

5.Can my band play for Flow?
Yes, but this lineup is already FULL. Only if the TBC acts pull out will there be a vacancy.

6.Can I sell tickets for Flow?
Yes, email me at mark@gashaus.com. The YJC post prom party is tying up with us already, but you have to pledge a number of tickets sold, or EVERYONE will want to sell tickets... and it will not be financially viable to pull off this event.

7.What happened to Ronin and Electrico on the lineup?
Budgeting and availability issues prevented us from getting them on the lineup, but West Grand boulevard, Concave Scream and Plain Sunset have been inserted and are great bands too! :)

Love,
Saito

dont be afraid to keep asking!

Hi Ely,
do you happen to know the Timbre results for WBOB? I know that shine and project ultrasound cleared our finals, flybar and pressplay cleared homeclub (I actually mistook that you guys cleared the homeclub finals - flybar said you guys were putting up a major challenge)

I am in and out of Gashaus most of the time. Dial 63371967 to check for me if you want to grab me :)

Why do you sound so down?

Latest news people.

Public statement:
I just spoke to the committee and talked to Nokia about letting independent bands play in the PURE room and I got an answer from them

1. Because of the licensing, bands have to be 18+

2. Nokia is sensitive about their branding, therefore the bands will not have their names published on any of the collaterals (posters flyers and main EDMs), but of course, they will be included in the schedule.

3. The committee says that we must be able to justify the use of the room rental from ministry and the additional equipment hire cost; perhaps a partnership system should be appropriate. It was proposed that Bands be made to sell tickets (BOOOOOOO I know, I voted against it my friends) - and the pre-determined amount was 50 tickets a band, contracted and invoiced (everything black and white). Luckily, I managed to negotiate commission for the bands too - and its a hefty percentage of the money, so you wont walk away empty handed at all.

Of course, there's still the option of being a ticket seller for just the sake of the commission.

You'd be playing in a major event in Ministry, so its worth the risk.

Do let me know if anyone is interested considering the above. I already have 30+ emails requesting to play on FLOW.
