Hi everyone,

My name is Melissa and I am a pianist. I have been playing the piano since I was young, but I was educated based on exam syllabus so I can't play by ear like most of the keyboardists here :(

Anyway I am new here and I wish to make more friends :D
 
hello I also played piano when I was young and took exams. but I also play guitar too now
 
the best way to learn Play-by-Ear is to just play a cover.

pick your fav pop song and use your foundation in ABRSM to perform the piece your way...

practice makes perfect...

not sure if you have statistics to back your observation...

if you anchor well in piano classical and later dwell into pop and clock at least 5000hours of practice (half of what Malcolm Gladwell said..." you should do fine in pop piano or keyboard...

if any classical pianist feels he/she/it is stuck in classical way, then is the matter of lack of practice in pop improvisation and good understanding of the decorative chords.

i personally dun do well in classical... i cannot stick to a score to play... perhaps that's why i am jazzy-pop keyboardist ya...
