    I've been here for a few years now & I'm still very active on the forums be it posting & selling stuff. Basically I do my best to provide opinions. I've gone through numerous guitars and tons of repairs (on my own guitars) to speak from experience. I view this as a learning process more than anything else.

    However one thing I noticed about people is that whenever someone asks for help, they'd just say: "go check google". Question here is, you want to help or not? Maybe the whole reason why people do not want to go thru google is because they don't have all the time in the world to read an entire article and just want their answer summed up in a sentence.

    Also the attitude of the people on the classifieds really can throw people off. As if they demand some form of "customer service". Why do I have to be nice to someone who keeps asking me questions appearing all interested but doesn't buy jack at the end? Time is precious to most people and I'm one of them.

    Example I am selling something cheap now. I have more than 10 interested people who got my number and emailed me but guess what? None of them bothered to make an appointment with me. When items become too cheap, people take that for granted too. I find this mindset amazing.

    Other than than, I still feel information is always free. However, I do expect a thanks at the very least. I have people emailing me about opinions and not getting a reply. So was my opinion bad or you just can't be bothered to reply? It's tough to be nice. Too nice also people question you. What can I say? Those who know me in real life know better anyway.

    Bottom line is, if you want people to be nice to you, you have to be nice to people first. I got this quote from a Filipino lady who works at the western union branch at balestier. Now, that made a whole lot of sense.

    I come here mostly to check for any nice deals in the classifieds.

    I used to give lots of advice and information, but then I'm hardly an expert at this field so I'm toning down on giving advice and info. Anyway, I find that it's more effective to go online and google for reviews for guitars and gear, rather than asking on a forum.

    I will continue to offer my opinions, though it must be said that I won't be doing so much either because they don't make any difference.

    You have been doing a great job with your advices. For that you deserve credit! It feels good to know that someone has taken your advice or appreciated your opinion no matter the situation.

    I noticed that there are many new members who post, ask questions in the first post and let the thread dissolve by itself. Hence people have no idea what the outcome is & are left hanging whether they managed to offer good advice or not. makes you feel stupid sometimes doesn't it?

    its a cycle, a circle.

    Just like some in the classified forums expect customer service, some see forum as customer service helpdesk for commonly asked question.

    "Go check Google" is justified when the question is such a basic one with only 1 direct answer, like Where can I find X brand? or How much does Y retail for? Literally you can type in the question the person asked, press enter and get the answer. It's like walking into McDonald's and asking how much is a McChicken while the menu is right in front of your face. Sure, a nice person will still answer you, but even he will wonder if there's something wrong with you.

    The strength of a forum lies in the discussion of more in-depth things, specialised knowledge and unique opinions. If I wanted to answer every FAQ I would be working at a helpdesk.

    Well, in every forum, it does have to have its end. With the rise of the social media like Facebook, Twitter, etc. (which is more accessible to everyone), not surprised to see everyone leaving.

    I think that people come here to ask questions because they really do not know. Perhaps they just entered the scene and are completely oblivious to the "obvious" (which only seems obvious to us because we've been around long enough to know), or perhaps they have been away for a long time and need to be updated with what's going on.

    Furthermore, not all information is easily obtainable by just "Googling". Just because Google made everything simple does not mean that they will have all the answers.
