One thing I forgot to mention on this guide.there's no vst support if I'm not wrong.you may have to find an alternative amp simulation if GarageBand has any if not utilize a pedal that has cabinet simulation. I used to use a cheap zoom505 as an "amp".l

Weikwang : pls read the guide again. I used the onboard soundcard's mic input + "mic boost" function as a preamp.

This isn't an alternative to replace the ux1 cos there's alot of noise and sound compromise, but what this guide does is help you decide whether you should spend that money on UX1 or buy time to save for something bigger as you'll realize what you need when you go along.

Garageband has a hand of effect and amp simulation. There is a special interface for guitar track too.

    hey,
    did this,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-WXqM3Rfuw

    with that 'diy recording'

at first i tried using a splitter and put the mic and electric guitar together.
everything works fine except its in one single channel
but once i change my electric to a semi acoustic guitar, either the guitar or the mics can be heard.
you know whats the problem with it?
    your help help greatly appreciatedd..

fendergibsonlp : hey there sorry for the late reply, was busy celebrating my wedding anniversary/work/recording etc.

cool! nice composition, but did you try to remove the noise in the guide ? cos I can still hear quite abit of hiss when your vocals

as for your case, you're using a splitter ..

    this one right?
you're using it as a "mixer without faders" so you record one guitar and one vocals at the same time? interesting I haven't tried that one before! but if you're getting very mixed results with different inputs (it may be the electronics wiring thing) , maybe try another splitter if you got another $1.50-$3 to spare. and see if it's the same. it can be anything, the guitar inputs, the mic, the cables, the splitter , or the whole thing itself with poor connection. but it may not be worth trying to troubleshoot unless you're willing to play guinea pig haha. but keep up the good work and thanks for showing us your "attempt"!
