Yamaha to aquire Steinberg

While already news all around the world, our crack whore news agents have been too busy building a better Sonik to pay no mind to what’s going on elsewhere.

On Monday, the second coolest synth company released word of the acquisition of the second coolest digital audio workstation software. Biased? No not us!

A little less than two years after Pinnacle Systems picked up Steinberg and now it is being sent over to a company that might be able to take on the responsibilities one needs to administer world class recording software such as this.

Some questions arise with this purchase: will Yamaha continue Mac / PC development or drop one platform to target a single sector of the market; how does the close relationship of Yamaha and Apple relate to the new culture that will be invading the soft-side of the new equation -- mLan is not so arguably better engrained in OS X than any other operating system out there; and how does this effect the cold relations between Steinberg and Emagic with both refusing to recognize the others plug in technologies, albeit the original collaboration of Apple and Steinberg on the Audiounit technology or Yamaha releasing all in house plug-ins in a OS X native format.

These are questions we'd like to know. We still love our friends at Yamaha and will continue to silently hiss at our friends using Cubase but we wish this new marriage well and hope to see great competition out of the ordeal.
