One of the real joys of working with small builders is getting a sense of what inspires their instruments— where their musical lineage is coming from.

A former luthier at Froggy Bottom Guitars, repairman at Retrofret of NYC, and founder of Circle Strings, Adam Buchwald knows his way around boutique, custom, and vintage guitars. Iris was birthed out of a desire to bring the same high quality build and craftsmanship to a more affordable line of guitars, and this Iris OG is no exception. Based in Burlington, Vermont, the OG Model is a familiar nod to smaller-bodied Gibson acoustics of the ‘50s and ‘60s, refined and reimagined as a handcrafted, lightly braced, luthier-built guitar.

A European spruce top pairs perfectly with Honduran mahogany back and sides to lend the OG a warmth and balance ideal for light strumming or fingerstyle, while vintage appointments and an era-inspired headstock make this one a classic on-stage strummer.

The Iris OG Model
• Honduran Mahogany Back & Sides
• European Spruce Soundboard
• Scalloped Adirondack Spruce tone bars
• Mahogany Neck (Full C Shape Carve)
• Katalox Fretboard (16” Radius and Blind Fret Slots) and Bar Bridge with Slanted Holes.
• B/W/B Top Purfling
•Tortoise, White, or Ivoroid Binding
• B/W/B Rosette
• Small Plastic Dots on Fingerboard
• Celluloid Pickguard (Tortoise)
• Bone Nut and Saddle
• Off-White Plastic Bridge Pins
• Bolt-on Mortise and Tenon Neck Joint
• Golden Age Relic Brass Tuners with Off White Buttons
• Open Pore Satin Nitrocellulose Finish
• TKL Hard Shell Case
• D’Addario Light Gauge Phosphor-Bronze Strings
• 25" Scale Length
• 1-11/16" Nut Width
• 2 5/32 Spacing at Bridge

Every Iris Guitar is made by hand in Burlington, Vermont in the same small shop as Circle Strings with the same fine attention to detail and quality as these world class instruments. Iris Guitars has streamlined the build process by focusing on one model with limited options to keep it simple and help make a more affordable version of the incredible instruments coming out of the same shop for years.

The OG Model was the original Iris that put us on the map. It has a comfortable 25-inch scale and an equally comfy C-shape neck. Neck width comes in at 1-11/16”. It has a warm and dry voice, with an nice midrange response. It takes equally well to being strummed with a pick or fingerpicked, in standard or open tunings, and it has a generous amount of headroom and projection.

IRIS GUITARS are the new production model manufactured by Circle Strings. After many years of custom guitar building, we are proud to introduce an affordable, high-end acoustic guitar, MADE IN THE USA, that is the perfect tool for any beginner or professional musician. The guitar is our own shape, along the lines of an 00/LG style with 14 frets to the body, 25" scale, and 1 11/16" nut. There is no rosewood or ebony on this guitar, which means it can be shipped or taken across any border. Making an affordable, high end acoustic guitar is not an easy task at such a small level. Because of this, this is a bare bones model with basic appointments to excite even the serious guitar aficionado. If you have been interested in a Circle Strings guitar, but can't afford it, this is the perfect introduction to our guitars. Our goal is to make the best guitars we can for the player.
