People tend to think that in order to play guitar melody one needs a rhythm section; either live, backing track or looper; but I find doing the melody, solo line while becoming the rhythm section (groove, bass line & chords progression) itself is an interesting art by itself.
Instead of playing guitar in the band, this approach's like "playing band in the guitar". The habit of thinking 3 tracks simultaneously could be developed through some training.
