What Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Are Paying Musicians

The summary statement of this article, “The contribution of platforms like YouTube to the overall business can only be described as meager.”, really resonate with me and so I thought to share this with fellow Singapore musicians, https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2017/08/21/apple-music-spotify-youtube-riaa/ .

Music has value!

The song that the musician(s) produce(s) has the most value when it is new. As time passes, when the song becomes publicly available for free (supported by current technologies and many musicians mindset), the value will change. This change in value can be positive or not so positive, where a handful became famous, if lady luck is smiling at them, but so many are going no where. The above article shows us the current state that most, at least 90%, of musicians are marginalized.

Many musicians are stuck with such platforms because they have no where else to go. They continue to work hard, some work even harder, without much improvement in their chances.

I believe all musicians should focus on providing values to existing fans, regardless of how few there are at presence, to continue building their music career to greater height, without having to starve, worry about paying rental or feeling depressed because there is no stable source of income.

When a song is new, while at it's highest value, musician must seize this small window to extract maximum return, regardless how little, gradually it will amass to something more align to the musician's effort and his music capabilities. Starting small is also an investment for all at this stage to re-calibrate music fans' behavior. Slowly but surely, more diehard fans will start paying directly to support their musicians.

For this to happen, musicians need a platform that they can control, where their hard works are being respected. Having such a platform alone is never enough, musicians must band together and stop/reduce giving NEW songs away for almost free to other platforms.

Artistco is the platform to maximize return from recorded music when it is at it's highest value. After a month (at the discretion of the musician), the recorded music can be made available to Spotify, Soundclound or any other platforms, to satisfy the needs of true music fan (not artist diehard fans, but has a chance to become one). The distinction here is true fans of music, who are paying to the like of Spotify, are not exactly supporting musicians directly because the recording labels take a major cut first before leaving musicians to split the 0.5 cent per stream revenue. It is the diehard fans who treasure the direct relationship with musicians, who easily understand the significance of musicians getting 70% to 100% of the membership fee, will support musicians on Artistco.

In summary, by prioritizing the release of NEW music with Artistco, it allows the musician to maximize his return from the huge effort put into making the music, at the same time giving maximum values to his diehard fans. A truly win-win-win situations for the musicians, the diehard fans and Artistco.

Artistco believes in music has value.
